Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina advance to Rogers Cup final

The final match is set at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. It will between Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki and Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina. Wozniacki, who is the sixth seed, defeated unseeded Sloane Stephens in her semifinal match 6-2, 6-3.

“I think I was moving very well and retrieving and just trying to stay aggressive when I could,” Wozniacki said in AP report. “But it was a difficult match. And I think it was closer than what the scoreline showed.”

On the other side of the bracket is the fifth seed Svitolina, who defeated the second seed and defending champion Simona Halep 6-1, 6-1. Both Svitolina and Halep played twice Saturday as their quarterfinal matches were delayed due to rain Friday.

Wozniacki won this event in 2010 and is looking for her first title in 2017 after going 0-5 in finales thus far this calendar year. Collectively, her and Svitolina knocked out the top two seeds at the Rogers Cup and will be competing Sunday for $501,975 of the $2.74-million pot. The runner-up will earn $243,920.
