The New York Sharks are a women’s football team in New York City that play in the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL).
Recently, they were featured in a video presented by the Lupus Foundation of America and the American College of Rheumatology talking about how they are defying the odds day in and day out when society says ‘girls can’t play football.’ The video also shares player’s opening up about how important it is to listen honestly to their bodies. The hashtag #BeFierceTakeControl runs with the video and is part of a campaign that the NY Sharks are a part of to raise Lupus Awareness.
The New York Sharks are the most winning women’s football team in history and are the longest standing women’s team in the country. They were founded in 1999 and hold three conference titles (2002, 2003 2004) and six division titles (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.)
