Preseason must be near, as the Washington Spirit announced two more official contract signings on Friday.
The Spirit have signed forward Lindsay Agnew and midfielder Meggie Dougherty Howard to contracts for the 2017 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.
Agnew was selected by the Spirit at No. 19 overall in the 2017 NWSL College Draft in January. The former Ohio State captain has played for the Canadian youth national team since she was 16-years-old. Her first call up to the senior national team was this past January, and she was named to the team that traveled to Portugal for the Algarve Cup.
“Lindsay has great talent and potential,” said head coach Jim Gabarra in the club’s press release. “With her recent call ups to national team camp and to the Algarve Cup, she has created good positive momentum with Canada heading into preseason, and we look forward to having her join us.”
Dougherty Howard joins the Spirit after playing on the reserve team in 2015 and 2016. This team won the USL W-League Championship in 2015 and the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) East title in 2016. She recently attended the Under-23 National Team camp in January, and was invited prior to that at the May camp.
