U.S. national soccer team slated to face Russia in two April friendlies

U.S. Soccer announced today that the national team will face Russia in two friendlies in April. The first game will be held on Thursday, April 6, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas while the second match kicks off on Sunday, April 9, at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.

This two-game series will be the final U.S. national team matches before the National Women’s Soccer League commences its fifth season.

Russia is currently preparing for the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro tournament this summer. The Russians pulled a tough draw in Group B where they will play Germany, Italy and Sweden. Russia earned a spot in the tournament by placing second behind Germany in Group 5 of the qualification rounds.

This will be the first friendlies in the United States since November of last year. The games will come after the SheBelieves Cup set for March 1-7 which includes matchups between Germany, France, England and the U.S.

Tickets for the friendlies go on sale on February 23.
