Defender Stephanie Ochs has been acquired by the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) North Carolina Courage, the club announced on Friday.
Ochs has previously played in the NWSL with the Washington Spirit and Houston Dash. The San Diego native was picked first overall by the Spirit in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft and in 2014 was traded to the Dash. With the Dash she suffered an ACL tear in 2015 which put her on the sidelines for the season. The defender has been with the Dash since 2014, however was released this past April.
“Steph will be a valuable addition to our group,” NC Courage head coach Paul Riley said in a press release. “She’s a hybrid player and has a lot of good tools. We are impressed by her speed, strength and passion for the game. She certainly fits our team on the field and in the locker room. Great to have her aboard.”
