Breaking: San Antonio Stars to be sold and relocated

According to a report from Terrence Thomas of San Antonio Express News, and now confirmed by the team, the WNBA’s San Antonio Stars will be sold and relocated. Multiple sources have said the buyer is in Las Vegas.

The San Antonio Spurs currently own the Stars, and have announced that a sale and move to a new city is imminent. Here is the statement from the team:

The Stars moved to San Antonio from Utah in 2003. They reached the WNBA Finals in 2008 and were competitive for several years under head coach Dan Hughes, who was recently named the head coach of the Seattle Storm. They were led by the play of Becky Hammon, now an assistant with the Spurs. However, the last three seasons, they’ve been the worst team in the WNBA by record.
