Rio Olympics: Sarah Robles wins first medal for Team USA since 2000

In the over-75-kilo category (over 165 lbs),  weightlifter Sarah Robles won America’s first medal in the sport since women’s weightlifting was introduced to the Olympics in 2000.

Robles lifted a grand total of 286 kg (630.5 lbs) and earned the bronze medal. China’s Meng Suping barely won gold with 307 kg (676.8 lbs)—that was only one kilo more than silver medalist Kim Kuk Hyang of North Korea.

The last Americans to medal in weightlifting were super heavyweight record holder Cheryl Haworth who secured a bronze medal and Tara Nott who won gold in the 48 kg (105 lbs) category.
