Olympics: Jennifer Wu, Lily Zhang advance in table tennis

Table tennis player Jennifer Wu, who is an Excelle Sports Athlete Ambassador, started her campaign at the Riocentro – Pavilion 3 with a huge upset. The world No. 146 beat world No. 88 Odorova Eva from Slovakia in a comfortable 4-1 (3-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8) margin in the Women’s Singles First Round. Competing in her first Olympic Games for the United States, Wu dropped the first set, 3-11, as she appeared to be slightly tensed unable to defend Eva’s forehand loops.

From the second game on, Wu unleashed her weapon, forehand topspins, which were too strong for Eva. The Pan American Games Champion won the next four games with a comfortable margin. Wu now faces Sweden’s Matilda Ekholm ranked at No. 52 in the world. That match starts at 8:15 p.m. ET.
