Northwestern men’s basketball team to honor late women’s basketball player Jordan Hankins

On Thursday night, the Northwestern University men’s basketball team will honor late women’s basketball player Jordan Hankins, who died Monday.

The Wildcats will debut a jersey patch featuring Hankins’ initials and No. 5 for their Big Ten game at Rutgers.

On Tuesday, Hankins’ death was ruled a suicide, according to The Daily Northwestern. She was found dead in Foster-Walker Complex on Monday afternoon.

She averaged 3.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 11 appearances this year and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

“Jordan was a remarkably dynamic young woman,” Northwestern women’s basketball coach Joe McKeown said in a statement released Monday. “This is a devastating loss for our basketball family. She brought an unwavering intensity and commitment to everything in her life. We will miss her enormously.”

After the news broke, the Northwestern women’s team canceled its game Wednesday against Minnesota.
