Clarkson wins NCAA women’s ice hockey national championship over Wisconsin

Clarkson University captured the NCAA Division I women’s ice hockey national championship on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Wisconsin in St. Charles, Mo.

Cayley Mercer scored two goals to lead the Golden Knight to the victory. Mercer, along with four other seniors on the team, was a part of Clarkson’s first national championship squad in 2014. Shea Tiley got the shutout in net recording 41 saves on the night.

Wisconsin has lost in the Frozen Four semifinals in each of the past three seasons. The loss to Clarkson also ended its 22-game unbeaten streak.

Clarkson finished its season with a 32-4-5 overall record and halted the Badgers from their fifth national title.
