Jessica Burroughs drafted No. 1 overall by USSSA Pride in National Pro Fastpitch draft

Florida State pitcher Jessica Burroughs was selected first overall by the USSSA Pride in the 2017 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Draft Monday night.

Burroughs, the reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year, has helped lead No. 2 Florida State (43–3–1) to two Women’s College World Series appearances in three seasons. This season, she has a 22-2 record with a 0.80 ERA and 207 strikeouts so far. Last year, she was a third-team All-America selection.

She will once again work with Pride coach Lonni Alameda, who was once Burroughs’ coach with the Seminoles.

After winning the regular-season title last year, the USSSA Pride were upset by the Chicago Bandits 2-1 in the NPF Championship Series, and one of the Pride’s issues was pitching depth, which Burroughs will hope to help.
