Baylor’s Kalani Brown headlines Big 12 women’s basketball preseason honors

Baylor center Kalani Brown headlined the Big 12 Conference’s women’s basketball preseason awards by earning preseason Player of the Year honors. The conference announced its preseason awards, which are voted on by the head coaches, on Wednesday.

Chosen as the preseason Player of the Year for the first time in her career, the 6’7″ All-American junior Brown led Baylor in scoring (15.4 points per game), rebounding (8.2 rebounds per game), and blocks (2.0 blocks per game) last season.

Brown was also named to the preseason All-Big 12 Team on Wednesday. Texas’ senior guards Ariel Atkins and last year’s conference Player of the Year Brooke McCarty were named to the team too, as well as West Virginia junior guard Tynice Martin and Oklahoma State senior center Kaylee Jensen. All five members were part of last season’s All-Big 12 First Team at the end of the year.
