Elena Delle Donne can’t wait to return home to Washington.
On Wednesday, Delle Donne, who was traded from the Chicago Sky to the Washington Mystics this offseason, wrote a “love letter” to Mystics fans. The Delaware-native released a video with her new team in which she reads fans a letter about her love for the D.C. area. In the letter, she says how excited she is for the season, how the Verizon Center—where the Mystics play—has always felt like home to her, and of course, how being able to eat a local favorite—Maryland blue crabs—is great.
“Anyone that knows me understands that family is everything,” Delle Donne said. “They supported me in Chicago, which is a great city, but there was something pulling me back east. I’ve spent a lot of time on the road, played in a lot of different arenas and for me, they felt far away. It was a different feeling when I came to D.C., it didn’t feel like an away game, I felt at home.”
