Carissa Moore won’t move on to Round Three at Oi Rio Women’s Pro

Carissa Moore is a three-time World Champion surfer who consistently has made it to Round Three at Championship Tour events. That is, until Friday when for the first time in more than six years Moore will not be advancing to Round Three after falling to Bianca Buitendag in tough conditions at the Oi Rio Women’s Pro.

The last time Moore didn’t make it past the second round was in 2010 in Peru at the Movistar Classic.

Buitendag, 23, out of South Africa had her best year in 2014 when she ranked as high as No. 4. In 2016 she was ranked 12th by the World Surf League. Her performance to defeat Moore was a smart combination of control and tactics to glide through the difficult conditions.
