Anna Nordqvist shot five-under-par 66 in the first round of the Mediterranean Ladies Open on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead over five other golfers.
Nordqvist made six birdies and one bogey in the opening round on a cold and windy day just outside of Barcelona.
”It was just very cold this morning so the ball wasn’t flying as far and it didn’t seem like it was compressing as it has over the last couple of days,” Nordqvist told reporters afterwards. “It was playing a good two-club wind on the last hole and you’ve got to adjust to the chillier weather.”
Meanwhile, five golfers—Florentyna Parker, Sophie Walker, Giulia Sergas, Jenny Haglund and Gemma Dryburgh—trail Nordqvist by just one stroke.

Four other golfers sit another stroke back at three-under-par, including Pamela Pretswell, Anne Van Dam, Felicity Johnson and Valdis Thora Jonsdottir.
Wind speeds are expected to decrease for the next three days of the tournament, with sunshine and warmer weather expected.
